Elaine Gardner was born in Barnstable, MA. and attended Swain School of Design in New Bedford. After a postgraduate year at Swain, she spent a period of independent study in Italy. Years later, a tutorial with still-life painter Ann Hartley of Eastham, MA. gave her the tools and inspiration needed to return to oil painting. Elaine and her husband Bart Guiney live in Yarmouth Port, MA.

“I paint exclusively with natural north light and in oil. I use various objects that I find interesting because of their color, shape or texture and their combinations to make an exciting composition. The negative shapes in these compositions I feel are equally important to provide more interest, tension and movement."
